SPOOKY! G-body Frame Mounts

Completing the G-body frame was a fun process.  However, lowering the body down on the G-body frame mounts was very spooky! I used the Energy Suspension body mount kit (purchased through Summit Racing). I also used new stock metric fasteners purchased from Dixie Monte Carlo.

I have never taken a car apart this in-depth before, so it was a great learning experience. I would change 2 things if I had it to do over again. 1st, have help lifting up and lowering the body back down to the frame. 2nd, install the fuel lines before lowering the body back down to the frame!

Anyway, to the pics!

The frame off restoration was more of a “Bolt good parts on a good frame”, but either way, I still enjoyed this part of the build. I ended up painting the spindles black at a later date. I also added the grand prix frame brace
yup, it’s a 9 inch moser…
just another view of the completed frame … and a sneak peek at the 6.0L truck motor
I didn’t get a good shot of how high in the sky you have to go to do this, but trust me, ITS SPOOKY!
Dive Dive Dive!!! The body was lowered back down to the frame by stair stepping it down.
The frame bolts were purchased from the Dixie Monte Carlo website… new bolts are safer! Also, this part of the rebuild was done before the firewall completion and door jamb painting.
The body is finally down on the frame and setting on rollers under the engine cradle and under the axle. Bolted up to the body with an Energy Suspension kit using stock fasteners.

I have shown the tear down, the frame build up, the body floor pan clean up, the firewall /rocker/door jamb painting, the frame/body joining – now on to the engine clean up. I’m pretty sure you all will like this next set of posts. The engine is really one of the neatest transformations on this car. Its worth noting also during this build up, I have kept track of most of the expenses. Finding the excellent parts for amazing prices is a big part of this build and I really want to see roughly how much the $$$ total will be. To give ya an idea though – 50K mile LQ4 complete long block $500.00 purchased in March 2010.

keep checking back for updates!
