Paint Stripper on Floor Pans

I removed the interior for using paint stripper on the floor pan. Once the paint and seam sealer was removed, I was not disappointed. A perfect G-body floor pan!

This is a time extensive job, so be certain you have a complete weekend to devote to a procedure like this. The chemical I used was Aircraft Paint Stripper from Auto-Zone (the point system at this store comes in pretty handy when buying chemicals). I applied the Stripper 2 sections at a time to allow for chemical dwell time. By the time I completed coating the 2nd area, the 1st area was bubbled up and ready to clean. There were intricate spots that had to be redone through the stripping process, but nothing to problematic. I used good ‘ol H2O to clean off the stripping agent once it was done. The part that took the longest was cleaning out the seam sealer and the joints. These areas were left unsealed for the POR-15 painting process.

Using AutoZone Aircraft paint remover, this is what the floors came out like. -Perfect- I removed the paint from the floors for 2 reasons: first to make sure there was no hidden issues; second, the floors were going to coated with POR15.
No Rust here! Floor pans checked OK on to the next step. These were so nice I hated to move on.

The POR-15 paint is great for sealing one side of things, but a complete seal from all sides is preferable. So not only were the upper side of the floor pans to be painted, the lower sides were to be prepped and treated as well.

G-bodys tend to have problematic floor pans and rocker panels, so it was a relief to find the floors in this good of shape. Next, prep of the uppers for paint and then clean up of the lower side of the floors.
